MISSOULA, MONT. - The Arizona Diamondbacks announced that Missoula infielder Jake Mayers was transferred to Short-Season A Hillsboro and that LHP Dallas Newton was assigned to the Missoula roster.
Jake Mayers hit .385 in eleven games this season with a pair of RBI. He carried a .457 on-base percentage and went out hot with a 4-5 performance in two July games. A 19th round selection out of the University of Richmond in 2013, Mayers became a fan-favorite when he made 58 starts for Missoula last season. Last night, Mayers delivered an RBI single in the ninth inning for the Hops.
Dallas Newton is a left-handed pitcher from Greensboro, North Carolina, who posted a 1-1 record with a 3.78 ERA in the AZL this summer. In 16.2 innings, Newton allowed nine hits and totaled thirteen strikeouts. He also carried a .148 opponents' batting average. Newton was selected in the 33rd in last summer's Arizona draft class.
