
Six-Run Colts Seventh Sinks Dillas 12-3

AMARILLO, TX - The San Angelo Colts went into the seventh inning against the Amarillo Dillas trailing 3-2, but they left that inning leading 8-3 and didn't look back, defeating the Dillas 12-3 on Thursday night in front of 2,030 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa.
Dillas starter Jermaine Van Buren (1-1) allowed only one earned run, but allowed seven runs overall in six-and-a-third innings pitched. Colts starter Chandler Barnard (7-3) struggled, but picked up the win as he allowed three runs off eight hits in six innings of work. San Angelo reliever Gorman Romero picked up his first save, going the final three innings against the Dillas.
The Dillas took a first inning lead as Joaquin Rodriguez, Carlos Figueroa and Andrew Wong all hit one-out singles to load the bases. Stephen Douglas followed with a fielder's choice to score Rodriguez for a one-run lead. In the second, Jermel Lomack walked, went to second on a groundout and scored on a Joaquin Rodriguez RBI double for a 2-0 lead.
Amarillo continued scoring in the fourth as Adam De La Garza led off with a double and scored on a Carlos Figueroa RBI double for a 3-0 Dillas advantage.
The Colts got on the board against Van Buren in the sixth inning as Tyler Goodro led off with a single, went to second on a groundout and scored on a Jason Landreth RBI single, while Landreth would score on an error for a 3-2 score.
San Angelo tied the game in the seventh as Blake Shaffer scored on an error while Jason Crosland hit a bases-loaded double to score Ronnie Gaines and Butch Ballez. Alex Fernandez and Josh Collazo followed with RBIs for a 8-3 Colts lead.
The Colts added three more in the ninth off an error, a two run homerun from Shaffer and an RBI double form Ronnie Gaines for an nine-run lead.
The Dillas couldn't get anything going offensively for the remainder of the game against Romero to fall in game one of the series 12-3.
With the loss, the Dillas fall to 47-34 while the Colts improve to 39-42. Friday, Amarillo will take on San Angelo for the second game of a four-game set at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show set to begin at 6:50pm on AudioSportsOnline via www.myamarillodillas.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
