San Angelo Colts News Release
San Angelo, TX - The Colts roster took a big blow today as second-baseman Mark Ramos was placed on the inactive list indefinitely with a hernia. He suffered the injury during Wednesday's game against Edinburg.
Ramos was having a great rookie season batting .303 with one homer and 28 RBI in 71 games played as the everyday second baseman. The East Moline, IL native was signed by the Colts back on June 5 after playing briefly for Rio Grande Valley in 2009.
With Ramos out, the Colts signed infielder Blake Shaffer to the active roster. Shaffer played in three games for the Colts last season hitting .250 with three RBI.
A native of Brownwood, TX, Shaffer lettered four times in baseball at Howard Payne University where he finished with a career .360 batting average with 10 homers and 101 RBI. He was named All-American Southwest Conference Western Division three times.
Off the field, Shaffer runs the Angelo Baseball Academy in San Angelo.
The Colts are on the road for the final time in the regular season as they take on the Amarillo Dillas in the first game of a four-game series tonight with first-pitch set for 7:05. Chandler Barnard (6-3, 3.21 ERA) will go for San Angelo against former major-leaguer Jermaine Van Buren (1-0, 4.91 ERA) of Amarillo. The broadcast of the game can be heard on 1260 KKSA with the Kemps Pregame Show getting things underway at 6:50.
The Colts return home August 24 for the final home-stand of the regular season with the first of a four-game set against the Coastal Bend Thunder in a series that has been moved from Robstown to San Angelo. The first game will feature $2 Tuesday courtesy of Budweiser as general admission tickets, parking, popcorn, soda, hot dogs, and bottled beer will all be on sale for only $2 throughout the evening.
