
Five-Run Seventh Drops Roadrunners

EDINBURG, Texas---A five run seventh inning for the Laredo Broncos helped them defeat the Edinburg Roadrunners 6-3 Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 5,365 in attendance, the largest crowd of the season.
With the loss, Edinburg stays one game ahead of the Amarillo Dillas, who lost Thursday night, for first place in the United League standings.
The Roadrunners (47-32) got on the board in the bottom of the first against Robert Roth (2-4). Wilmer Pino led off with a walk and then stole second base. Felix Molina then hit an RBI triple to deep right field that allowed Pino to score. Nelson Teilon then grounded out to the shortstop allowing Molina to score from third giving Edinburg the 2-0 lead.
The Broncos (42-39) got to Tim Haines in the top of the third when Jonel Pacheco hit a sacrifice fly to center field that allowed Michael Murphy to score from third cutting the Roadrunners lead 2-1.
In the bottom of the third, Pino again led off the inning with a walk and then stole second base. After Molina walked, a double steal moved Pino to third but a fielding error allowed him to score extending Edinburg's lead 3-1.
Maiko Loyola started the top of the seventh with a single and then stole second base. Two outs later, Pacheco was walked to put runners at first and second. Jonathan Cisneros followed with a two-run double that allowed Loyola and Pacheco to score tying the game at three. Salvador Paniagua then hit an RBI single allowing Cisneros to score from second. Carlos Arroyo highlighted the inning with a two-run home run giving the Broncos the 6-3 lead.
Maximinio De La Cruz, Thomas Vessella, and Reyes Dorado pitched the final three innings of the game keeping Edinburg off of the scoreboard. Reyes pitched a scoreless ninth picking up his sixth save of the season and giving Laredo the 6-3 victory.
The Roadrunners and Bronocs will play the second game of this four-game series Friday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Jose Pablo Oyervidez (2-0) is expected to face Matt Gibbs (6-3) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
