Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Lansing, Mich.- Rosters for the 2005 Midwest League All-Star Game to be held in Peoria, IL on June 21, 2005 were announced by the league on Tuesday and the Lugnuts had a total of six players selected to the team. Juan Peralta, Curtis Thigpen and Chi-Hung Cheng will represent the Lugnuts in Peoria at the game. Casey Janssen, Danny Hill and Chip Cannon were also voted to take part in the game but have since been promoted to Dunedin in the Florida State League.

None of the three players headed to Peoria will be starters, but all three have had key roles in the Lugnuts maintaining a winning record in the first half despite the defection of the other three All-Stars. Thigpen has served as the team's primary catcher in 2005 and in 53 total games, the Blue Jays' 2nd round pick in 2004 has a .278 average with three homers and 24 RBI through Tuesday's action. Peralta now leads the team in RBI with 29 after the promotion of Cannon and is batting .291 in 48 games, primarily at second base. Cheng makes the All-Star squad after posting a 3-4 mark with an ERA of 3.21 so far in 11 starts for Lansing. The lefty from Taiwan is also in the Top 10 in the league in strikeouts with 65.

Of the departed players, Janssen and Cannon continue to roll on. Janssen is now 8-0 on the season after winning his first four decisions in Dunedin after posting a 4-0 mark with a 1.37 ERA in seven games with the Lugnuts before his promotion on May 9th. On the year, Janssen has fanned 69 hitters while walking just seven. Cannon left the Lugnuts prior to the trip to Peoria this past weekend and has homered three times in his first five games in Dunedin. With the Lugnuts, the Charleston, S.C. native batted .268 with 11 homers and 36 RBI.

Hill has also done a nice job so far in Dunedin. After posting a 1-2 mark with a 2.04 ERA in 17 games with the Lugnuts, the righty out of Wiemar, Texas has posted a 1.93 ERA in four games following his promotion on May 27th.
