South Bend, IN â The South Bend Silver Hawks won't have any problem recognizing may of the players in the eastern division clubhouse when the All-Star game is played in Peoria on June 21. The Hawks, who have been in first place for the bulk of the first half in the Midwest League's eastern division, were rewarded as a team and as individuals with the announcement of 11 players making the eastern division's All-Star team.
Four pitchers and seven position players made the team, dwarfing the number of Silver Hawks making the team last season in Cedar Rapids (6).
Players for the Silver Hawks heading to Peoria include:
⢠Emilio Bonifacio - leads the team in stolen bases (23)
⢠Agustin Murillo - team leader in batting average (.332)
⢠Carlos Gonzales - leads the Midwest League in RBI
⢠Javier Brito - hitting (.331) and has fanned only 19 times in 145 at-bats this season
⢠Alberto Gonzalez - has yet to commit an error this season and is hitting (.312); Jereme Milons â leads the Silver hawks in triples (4)
⢠Allen Mottram â leads the Midwest League in slugging percentage (.612)
⢠Josh Perrault â has struck out 25 batters and walked only five this season
⢠A.J. Shappi â tied for the league lead in wins (9)
⢠Ross Ohlendorf â owns a strikeout to walk ratio of better than 3:1 (68/20)
⢠Matt Elliott â leads the bullpen in saves and is third in the Midwest League in saves
The Silver Hawks finish the first half of the season with four road games against the Swing of the Quad Cities, before returning home to play seven games against the Dayton Dragons and West Michigan Whitecaps.
