Omaha Lancers News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD. - After taking down the Tri-City Storm on the road last night (2/18) the Lancers headed north to the Denny Sanford Premier Center to take on the Sioux Falls Stampede for the fourth time in the last six weeks.

So far this season, the Lancers are 5-1 against the Stampede, with their lone loss being back on December 28, 2021, in the first game back from the holiday break.

The first period consisted of a fast start for the Lancers.

Just 1:29 into the period, Michael Cameron was rushing through the neutral zone, attempting to pick up a stretch pass from defenseman, Chris Hedden. The pass missed its target and ended up being on net as Sioux Falls goaltender, Noah Grannan attempted to steer the puck away.

While attempting to knock the puck to the corner, Grannan misplayed the puck and gave the puck away to Cameron at the bottom of the right side face-off dot. Cameron was then able to send a shot five-hole on Grannan to take the early 1-0 lead.

The one goal lead held out for the majority of the period, but with 5:43 left in the period, Sioux Falls got going in the attacking zone. After a battle in the corner, Sam Harris picked up a loose puck and carried it in front of the net where he beat Omaha goaltender, Kevin Pasche down low. That goal knotted the game 1-1, which the teams took into the first intermission.

The second period consisted of a Lancers breakdown on all fronts.

Just 48 seconds into the period, Maddox Fleming found the back of the net with a shot that went bar-down on Pasche to make it a 2-1 game in favor of the Stampede.

Just under eight minutes later, Daniel Russell found Karsen Dorwart in the attacking zone where he was able to capitalize while short-handed to take the two-goal lead, making it a 3-1 game.

With just 3:30 left in the period, Blake Humphrey found Sam Harris on the back door as he snuck his second goal of the night by Pasche's right skate to give the Stampede a 4-1 lead.

Just when you thought the scoring was over, Brandon Chabrier netted a goal from the right side faceoff circle while on the power-play to make it a 5-1 game with just seven seconds left in the period. Michael LaStarza and Maddox Fleming pickeed up the assists on that goal.

The third period consisted of one goal for Sioux Falls as Russell and Dorwart went into the attacking zone on a 2-on-1 while shorthanded and got one by Tommy Heaney who started the third period in net for the Lancers. That goal gave the Stampede their second shorthanded goal of the night and capped off a 6-1 victory for Sioux Falls.

The Lancers will be back in action tomorrow (2/20) back in Omaha was they host the Lincoln Stars at Liberty First Credit Union Arena. Puck is set to drop at 4:05PM CST. That game can be caught on Mixlr and HockeyTV.
