Tri-City Storm News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - The Tri-City Storm (3-5-1) fell behind in the second period and couldn't dig themselves out of a hole in the third, losing to the Sioux Falls Stampede (7-3-0) 5-2 on Saturday night at the Sioux Falls Arena.
Brian Ward led the offense for a second consecutive night, scoring both Storm goals. After his second straight night with two tallies, Ward now has seven goals on the season, leading the team. Trevor Moore also picked up assists on both Ward goals.
The Stampede took the lead 4:15 into the first period when Todd Skirving scored his first goal of the game.
Ward evened things up at 11:39 of the first, getting a pass from Moore on a two-on-one and beating goaltender Jan Obernesser with a nice move to get Tri-City on the board.
Sioux Falls took control in the second, scoring three consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead. Skirving scored twice more to record a hat trick for himself, while Dennis Kravchenko added the fourth goal of the night for the Stampede.
The Storm got a goal before the end of the second when Moore found Ward in front of the net for his second of the night. The goal, scored at 19:41 of the middle frame, came just 28 seconds after Kravchenko's tally.
But Tri-City couldn't get any closer in the third period, and Sioux Falls scored the final goal of the game when C.J. Franklin found the back of the net at 12:22 of the third period.
The Storm don't have much time to rest before they take on the Lincoln Stars in Kearney at the Viaero Event Center this Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m.
