Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Black Hawks scored eight goals Sunday and celebrated their ninth win of the season, 8-3, against the Youngstown Phantoms at the Covelli Center in eastern Ohio.

The Hawks made the most of their first power play during the game, when Kyle Schmidt tipped a Victor Newell shot and scored at 3:07. At 7:35, Waterloo struck again, finishing a two-on-one rush as Taylor Cammarata fed Justin Kloos for a score. Back on the power play, the Hawks made it 3-0 at 13:46, when Cammarata played a puck into the net after it caromed to him off the end boards. Youngstown temporarily stemmed the tide twenty seconds later when Marcus McCrea knocked in a chance from the left wing circle.

Waterloo added two more goals in the second, as Mark Friedman scored on a long shot from the deep slot at 3:22 just after a power play had ended. Cammarata was responsible for the next tally just past the midpoint of the period, when he converted a breakaway. Austin Cangelosi found the net at 12:05 to keep the Phantoms within three at the second intermission.

In the third, the Hawks pulled away to their largest lead. Vince Hinostroza and Zach Stepan finished opportunities from close range, separated by less than two minutes, both setup by Taylor Cammarata at 6:55 and 8:53. An Alexander Dahl goal at 11:46 and a marker by Jake Horton with 6.7 seconds remaining in regulation pushed the score to the eventual final.

Eamon McAdam made 39 saves for his fifth victory of the season, and Cammarata completed the evening with six points. The Black Hawks 9-1-0 mark is the best in franchise history through ten games.

Waterloo remains on the road next weekend. After three this weekend against Eastern Conference opponents to conclude October, the Hawks head west to meet the Omaha Lancers and Des Moines Buccaneers during the first week in November.
