Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers were in Sioux Falls to take on the Stampede on Friday night, and despite taking an early lead, they couldn't secure the two points falling by a final score of 3-2.

Sioux City got a big opportunity early in the game when Artem Ivanyuzhenkov received a 5 minute major and a game misconduct for cross-checking. Samuel Stevens took a hooking penalty just over 3 minutes into the powerplay to give the Musketeers a two man advantage, and they didn't waste the opportunity. Luke Johnson blasted home a shot from the point for his second goal of the season to put the Musketeers up 1-0 8:23 into the 1st period. Despite the goal, Sioux City seemed a step behind, unable to sustain any offensive pressure, but they would head into the locker room up one after the 1st period.

Sioux Falls tied the game 3:40 into the 2nd period on a nice deflection by Ethan Phillips. Sioux City struggled to find any momentum in the period but managed to stay even thanks to the stellar play of Ben Kraws. He would go on to make 18 total saves in the 2nd frame.

Play finally seemed to open up in the 3rd period, but it would be the Stampede who would strike first on a goal by Andre Lee at the 10:46 mark. Sioux City would respond quickly thanks to the always reliable Parker Ford. Ian Malcolmson made an excellent pass to a streaking Ford in the offensive zone, who made a nice move to his backhand before lifting the puck over Jaxson Stauber to tie the game at two.

Unfortunately, the Musketeers couldn't hold off the Stampede, and it would be Lee again at the 15:21 mark to put the Stampede up 3-2. Sioux City had some good opportunities late in the game but couldn't convert. Final score 3-2.

The lone bright spot for Sioux City once again was Ben Kraws. Kraws made 34 saves in the game and was the reason the Musketeers managed to stay close in this one.

The Musketeers will need to shake off the loss in a hurry as they turn around to face the Stampede tomorrow night in Sioux City for Cross Check Cancer Night. Puck drop is set for 7:05 and don't forget to wear lavender!
