Youngstown Phantoms News Release
YOUNGSTOWN, OH - The Youngstown Phantoms (2-6-0-1) scored 6 goals as they came away victorious against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
Connor MacEachern scored his fourth of the year on the Power Play at the 7:51 mark to put the Phantoms up early.
Matt DeMelis answered with a goal of his own three minutes later, as he picked up a rebound off the right pad of Matt Thiessen.
MacEachern would tally for the second time in the period again on the Power Play as he fired a laser from the left point to put the Phantoms up three. The Fighting Saints would get one back as Michael Feenstra would net one 15 seconds later.
Trevor Kuntar tallied his first of the season to regain the three-goal lead at the 3:50 mark of the second period as he lasered a spin-o-rama shot in the slot past Thiessen. Ty Jackson would be awarded a penalty shot at the 10:34 mark and he would lift the puck over the blocker of Jon Mor (23 saves).
The Phantoms would extend their lead as Gianfranco Cassaro blasted a one timer past Thiessen, as he and Jack Malone played catch on a 2 on 0 and executed it perfectly to extend the Phantoms lead to 3.
Matias Maccelli would get one back for the Fighting Saints, but it wouldn't be enough as Craig Needham shot a puck from center ice and found the empty net with 17 seconds remaining to give the Phantoms the 6-3 victory.
The Phantoms return to action next weekend for a pair of games versus the Central Illinois Flying Aces. Both games start at 7:05. Broadcasts are available on HockeyTV and Western Reserve Radio.
