Sioux City Explorers Are 2015 Central Division Champs
August 20, 2015 - American Association (AA)
Sioux City Explorers News Release
The Sioux City Explorers record breaking season has paid off, winning the Central Division in 2015 by a landslide. The Explorers needed a Kansas City T-Bones loss to clinch, which is exactly what happened last night (August 19th), with Amarillo sweeping Kansas City in the two-game doubleheader. Sioux City still has eighteen more games yet to be played, which really puts an emphasis on how well this Explorers ball-club has done this season.
The team chemistry, work ethic and talent has brought this ball-club to a record breaking season. On August 8th, the Explorers won their fifty-third game of the season, with the 2-1 victory over Sioux Falls, which broke the franchise win record for wins in a season (52). The X's also broke their franchise team win streak of eleven games (1997) getting their twelfth win in a row a day later on August 9th with the 9-4 victory over Sioux Falls (Courtesy of the Sioux City Journal). The X's went on to win fourteen consecutive times without a loss during that hot-streak.
Sioux City has been in first place in the Central division since June 6th, with much credit going to the X's starting pitchers and bullpen. The Explorers pitching staff currently leads the American Association in strikeouts (611), opponent slugging percentage (.322), opponent batting average (.229) and is second in earned run average (3.10). The offense also is leading the American Association in three major categories; hits (841), triples (31), and stolen bases (148).
This Explorers team and coaching staff are electric and fun to watch, giving more reason to come support Siouxland's baseball team. To thank X's fans for all their support this season, the Sioux City Explorers have decided to have 'Fan Appreciation Week' (August 24-30th). From Monday, August 24th - Sunday, August 30th the X's will be selling $1 domestic beer, $1 soft drinks and 25 cent hot dogs as thanks for supporting the X's all season long.
