Sioux City Musketeers News Release

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers were back at home for their third game in three days Sunday afternoon. Sioux City would be looking for their 5th straight win against the Force but couldn't manage to take down a streaking Fargo team, losing by a final score of 3-1.

Fargo came into this game riding some serious momentum after scoring a combined 15 goals in just two games against the Omaha Lancers. A big part of that success was a powerplay unit that scored six goals against the Lancers, and they were effective again today. Sammy Steele got Fargo on the board on the powerplay three minutes into the game to give the Force a 1-0 lead. The Musketeers managed to keep Fargo in check the rest of period but seemed a step behind as they went into the locker room.

Fargo jumped on the Musketeers right out of the gate in the 2nd period. Griffin Loughran gave Fargo a two-goal advantage just 24 seconds into the period, and the Musketeers were on their heels. Grant Hebert added to the Force's lead 5 minutes later after Robbie Stucker picked off a pass at the blueline giving Fargo a breakaway opportunity. Stucker made it nearly to the goal line before feeding Gran Hebert who buried it to give the Force a 3-0 lead.

The Musketeers did not quit in this one and managed to get some momentum late in the 2nd period. After an initial shot, it looked like Ryan Bischel had covered the puck, but Ryan Leibold kept after it and managed to poke it in to give Sioux City a spark and cut the deficit to two.

Unfortunately for the Musketeers, there wasn't much offense for either team in the final period of action. Sioux City had just one opportunity on the powerplay in the period but could not find the back of the net. Final score 3-1.

Sioux City's playoff hopes are fading fast, and they will need to win almost every game down the stretch to keep their chance alive. They will get an opportunity to start their climb next weekend when Tri-City and Des Moines come to town. Don't forget the 31st is fan appreciation night where the Musketeers will raffle off this year's white jersey plus dozens of other fabulous prizes!
