Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of infielder Steve Singleton.

Singleton, 26, comes to Winnipeg after playing six seasons in the Minnesota Twins organization and finishing last season in the Philadelphia Phillies system. He reached Triple-A Rochester with the Twins last season, batting .252 with three home runs and 17 RBI in 41 games. At Double-A, he hit .295 with four home runs and 26 RBI in 68 combined games with New Britain and Reading in the Eastern League. Singleton also saw action in 11 games at Single-A with Lakewood in the South Atlantic League.

"He's a guy with a lot of experience. He should bring a high level of play to our team," Forney said. "He switch hits and has the ability to play all over the infield. He has really good career numbers and a lot of doubles in his history. He has the ability to not only move around defensively, but he has the ability to hit in multiple positions throughout the line up."

A product of San Francisco, California, Singleton has appeared in 654 professional games and sports a .281 batting average and .327 on-base percentage. In 2009, he competed in the prestigious Arizona Fall League, where he hit .289 with three home runs and 15 RBI in 19 games with the Mesa Solar Sox. He was selected by the Twins in the 11th round (336 overall) of the 2006 MLB amateur draft out of the University of San Diego.

The Goldeyes now have six players signed for the 2012 season, including one pitcher and five position players.

Fans looking to purchase season tickets and nine-game mini packs for the 2012 season can call the Goldeyes office at 982-BASE (2273) or visit the Shaw Park box office.
