Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies News Release
ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. - The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies of the ECHL are proud to announce that goaltender Scott Stirling has been named the 2003-04 Sher-wood ECHL Most Valuable Player as determined in a vote by ECHL coaches. The announcement came earlier this afternoon from the ECHL offices in Princeton. Stirling is the first player from Atlantic City to win the award, and the third player in franchise history.
Stirling, 26, finished the 2003-04 regular season with a record of 31-13-5, setting the Bullies franchise record for single-season wins and falling one victory short of matching a career-high. The Hull, MA native did set personal and franchise-bests with his 1.91 goals against average and .933% save percentage. Stirling's final goals against average places him second alongside Peoria's Curtis Sanford, and his final save percentage places him third alongside Columbus's Jeff Salajko in ECHL history. His efforts earned him the 2003-04 ITECH Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Year.
A member of the 2003-04 All-ECHL First Team with teammate Luke Curtin, Stirling becomes the second goaltender in ECHL history to win Most Valuable Player, and the second goaltender to win MVP and Goaltender of the Year in the same season, joining Louisiana's Frederic Cloutier who won both awards in 2001-02.
Birmingham's Jamey Hicks and Joe Flanagan were each honored as the ECHL MVP in 1998 and 1994 repsectively. Stirling will be presented the trophies for Goaltender of the Year and Most Valuable Player by Bullies Vice President and General Manager Dan Belisle prior to tonight's game with Peoria.
The Bullies continue their best-of-five Northern Division Semifinals against the Peoria Rivermen at 7:05PM tonight at Boardwalk Hall. Atlantic City leads the series 1-0 after Wednesday's 3-2 triumph.
