Mac-N-Cheese Weekend a Success
April 9, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that Mac-N-Cheese Weekend at the Arena at Gwinnett Center was a success and over 9,000 boxes of pasta were donated to The Salvation Army and local area food banks in Gwinnett and surrounding communities.
"We received an overwhelming response," said Captain Bret McElroy of the Salvation Army. "The number of fans that bought boxes at the game as well as those that brought boxes with them have allowed us to distribute the mac-n-cheese to six different organizations in the area."
Fans were encouraged to bring boxes of macaroni and cheese pasta to the Gladiators final regular season games on Friday, April 2nd and Saturday, April 3rd and use the boxes as noisemakers throughout the game to cheer on the Gladiators. Following the game, drop boxes were located at the exits for fans to donate the noisemakers to The Salvation Army to distribute to area foodbanks.
"We really enjoy working with the Gladiators," said Captain McElroy. "The weekend allowed us to heighten our awareness in the community and talk with people about our outreach and what we are doing in the community." The Gladiators involvement in the community has been to contribute to the growth, enjoyment, and overall health of the Greater Gwinnett Community through support for organizations, and participation in programs and events, that maintains and improves the quality of life in Duluth, Lawrenceville, Suwanne, Alpharetta, Roswell and numerous other communities that the Gladiators call home.
"The Salvation Army is grateful of the support that the Gladiators and the community have show this season," said Captain McElroy.
The Gladiators lead their best of five series against the Mississippi Sea Wolves, one game to none following Wednesday's dramatic 2-1 overtime win. Game 2 is scheduled for Tonight in Mississippi before the series shifts back to Gwinnett for game #3 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center on Saturday night at 7:35 p.m.
