Port Huron Prowlers News Release

Port Huron - The Wolves showed why they are the top team in the league last night, coming away with a 5-3 win after an impressive second period in which they found the back of the net three times. The Wolves would look to continue their impressive form going into the playoffs with the top seed all but locked up. As for the Prowlers, they are looking to bounce back and gain momentum towards the playoffs. The Prowlers would return to veteran netminder Cory Simons, and the Wolves turned to Breandan Colgan, who shut out the Prowlers the last time he played at McMorran Place.

Simons calmed the nerves early for the Prowlers making key early saves. The Prowlers would strike first in this game when Alex Johnson had a great takeaway in the D-zone, then went coast to coast and caught Colgan napping and beat him five-hole to give the Prowlers the 1-0 lead. In the first period, the Prowlers PK was excellent, killing off three penalties and having two great short-handed opportunities to extend the Prowlers lead. The Wolves outshot the Prowlers 12-7 in the period.

The 2nd period got physical as tensions from last night poured over to tonight's game, and you can see the tension break in this period. About halfway through the period, the Prowlers were on the PP, and Alex Johnson found the back of the net for the second time of the evening three seconds into the PP. The Wolves were able to cut the lead in half a few minutes later, win Cole McKechney, buried a rebound home. Both Simons and Colgan came up with excellent saves during the period to keep the game close.

The Prowlers did a great job controlling the third period and converting a crucial goal when Stavros Soilis buried home an excellent drop pass from Brennan Young to put the Prowlers up 3-1. Cory Simons made huge saves down the stretch keeping the potent Wolves offense off the board. This was the first time the Prowlers beat the Wolves this season. The Prowlers and wolves will play the series finale tomorrow at 3 pm.
