KENT, Wash. - Garrett Pilon had two goals and Carter Hart made 32 saves in a rivalry matchup against the Seattle Thunderbirds that was forced to overtime on Friday night, a 4-3 Everett Silvertips victory in OT before an announced crowd of 6,409 at ShoWare Center in WHL action.
The Silvertips took their first win in ShoWare Center in ten games, dating back to Feb. 6, 2016, and kicked off the first of a back-to-back against the Thunderbirds, keeping their spot atop the Western Conference and U.S. Division. Kevin Davis added a goal, and Bryce Kindopp scored the game winner to even the season series at 3-3.
Carter Hart, making 30 saves, passed Leland Irving with 108 career wins to become the all-time wins leader in Silvertips history.
UP NEXT: The Tips return to play on Saturday Feb. 17 for Local Heroes Night, 7:05 p.m. against the Seattle Thunderbirds, Sunday Feb. 18, 4:05 p.m. against the Kamloops Blazers. Tickets are on sale at www.everettsilvertips.com/ticketcentral.
The Silvertips got started early in the first period with a goal less than halfway into the power play from Garrett Pilon, set up by Kevin Davis and Patrick Bajkov, at 2:35. Davis sent the puck past Liam Hughes from the blue line to put Everett up 2-0 with five minutes left in the period. With only a minute left to play the Thunderbirds Matthew Wedman struck to cut the Silvertips lead in half.
Early in the second period Pilon had his second score of the night to make it 3-1 Everett. It was the only goal of the period that was punctuated with a line brawl that led to nearly every player involved leaving the ice with 3:14 left to play. Sean Richards received a game misconduct, with Richards receiving an additional major for checking from behind that left Everett on the power play for the remainder of the period.
The Silvertips outshot the Thunderbirds 17-11 in the third period but Seattle managed to slip two goals past Hart to tie up the game and send it to overtime. Austin Strand scored a power play goal at 1:12 to cut the lead to 3-2, and at 10:02 Turner Ottenbreit scored the goal Seattle needed to catch up.
After ten scoreless minutes the game would need to be decided in overtime, and Bryce Kindopp scored at 1:56 in the OT period to win the game as he drove the net from the right circle and jammed in a backhanded attempt.
Hughes made 42 saves to take the loss.
