Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Bloodworks Northwest is joined by the Everett Silvertips and WNBA's Seattle Storm in the effort to ensure a safe and reliable community blood supply amid the COVID-19 pandemic. From Thursday, May 14 through June 6, 2020, the Edward D. Hansen Conference Center at Angel Of The Winds Arena will be transformed into a Pop-Up Donor Center experience and a lifeline for local patients.
Tips and Storm fans are urged to make their one-hour donation appointment today as a safe and essential action to support local patients. In accordance with current social distancing guidelines, only scheduled appointments will be allowed. No walk-ins, guests, or people under age 16 are permitted onsite.
On the day of their appointment, fans are invited to wear team colors and spread the word with #WeGotThis. Every donor will receive a pair of tickets to an upcoming Storm and Silvertips game.
Social distancing recommendations have put a strain on opportunities to donate, as traditional blood drives and bloodmobiles are temporarily unavailable. Bloodworks has turned to an innovative alternative with Pop-Up Donor Centers that are held in large venues, allowing higher level of space and safety for donors and staff.
"We're grateful to have Angel Of The Winds Arena opening its doors to Seattle Storm and Everett Silvertips fans and Snohomish County neighbors to ensure the local blood supply is ready to respond to the increased need for blood as hospitals prepare to resume elective surgeries," said Bloodworks Northwest President & CEO Curt Bailey. "Together, these amazing teams and venue are giving 780 people an opportunity to donate lifesaving blood in May. The health and well-being of our community depends on repeat and first-time donors to lend an arm at this crucial time in honor of people who rely on blood transfusions to survive." "
The Everett Silvertips want to continue to work with great community minded organizations to help in times of need, and when this opportunity arose we wanted to see how we could help make this event successful and meet the needs of the local patients and hospitals who rely on Bloodworks," said Zoran Rajcic, Chief Operating Officer of the Everett Silvertips. "We have been blessed with great fan support throughout the years and hope everyone is staying safe and healthy. We encourage anyone who can come out to this event and donate blood to meet the needs in our community and region, and let's show how much the fans of the Everett Silvertips like to give!"
"We are pleased to continue our support of the Bloodworks Northwest Pop-Up blood drives as they expand to Angel of the Winds Arena," said Alisha Valavanis, Seattle Storm CEO and General Manager. "Along with the Everett Silvertips, we are proud to rally fans across the greater Puget Sound region to keep blood banks stocked amid the COVID-19 pandemic."Donors of all blood types are still needed every day to make an appointment to give blood in support of cancer patients, trauma victims, premature babies, or to treat severely ill COVID-19 patients, among others. As hospitals project the possibility of resuming elective surgeries, the Pop-Up safeguards the available blood on hand in case of a sudden spike in need.
"Right now, more than ever it's important to be contributing to our community. The safety and well-being of our neighbors and guests is always our priority. When asked if we could provide space for such a worthy cause there was no hesitation," said Everett Public Facilities District Board President Gary Weikel. "We want to continue to bring life into Everett and Snohomish County. By partnering with Bloodworks Northwest we're able to be part of something great. Please join us by coming in and donating. You can also bring life to our community."
Also supporting the effort are See's Candies, Briotech, Diedrich Espresso, and Lombardi's, which are providing extra refreshments and perks for all donors at the Angel Of The Winds Arena Pop-Up Donor Center.Bloodworks has posted information addressing questions and concerns for blood donors at www.bloodworksnw.org/coronavirus.
