
Silvertips Crush Giants 4-2

Tonight the two top seeds in the Western Conference went head to head and the Everett Silvertips came out victorious over the Vancouver Giants by a final score of 4-2. This was the third meeting of six between these two franchises and Everett holds a perfect 3-0 record. The Silvertips remain the top dogs in the US Division, as well as overall, with a record of 35-7-0-1 and 71 points. Vancouver, first place in the BC Division, has 65 points and a 29-10-3-4 history.
Shane Harper tallied the first goal of the game at 6:06 of the second period, while Everett was on a power play. Brandon Campos, behind the net, sent the puck out in front of the crease where Harper waited and pushed Everett up 1-0. Eight minutes later Dan Gendur padded their lead by one more after he slid the puck right by Tyson Sexsmith, Vancouver's goalie. Harper and Jesse Zetariuk posted the assists. With just under two minutes left the Giants put one behind Leland Irving to make it 2-1. Tim Kraus earned his 13th tally of the season while Wacey Rabbit posted the lone helper.
Early in the third Everett made it 3-1 after Dane Crowley one-timed it from the center point. Zetariuk and Harper again earned the assists. At 7:47, with a scrum in front of the net, Wacey Rabbit made it a game after he pushed the puck past Irving. Michal Repik and Milan Lucic were given the helpers on Vancouver's second goal. The final goal of the game was scored by Peter Mueller at 13:42. Mueller, from the right circle, wristed the puck over Sexsmith. The puck hit the crossbar and ricocheted into the net. Moises Gutierrez and Ondrej Fiala each posted an assist.
In goal Leland Irving was a brick wall and turned away 35/37 shots. His record climbs to 20-4-0-1. Tyson Sexsmith, stopping 22 of 26 shots, drops to 19-7-2-3. On the extra man advantage the Silvertips converted on one chance of seven while the Giants were scoreless on six opportunities. Vancouver out shot Everett 37-26 in the hockey game.
Hockey isn't over for the Everett Silvertips this weekend. Tomorrow night, Saturday January 20th, they travel south where they will take on division rivals, the Tri-City Americans. Game time is set for 7:05pm. Then on Sunday, January 21st, Everett and Vancouver meet again. The puck drops at 4pm in Vancouver, WA at the Pacific Coliseum.
