Silver Sox Win Big in St. George

June 26, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox decided if they were finally going to win a game on the road, they were going to do it with some style.

In the first game the Silver Sox ever played in St. George, Utah they exploded for 16 runs against the expansion Roadrunners winning it 16-10.

Reno sent 11 men to the plate in the first inning against St. George, with seven coming in to score. The long inning featured five Silver Sox hits, two coming from 3B Jordan Devoir who had four hits and four runs batted in on the night.

Devoir was not the only player to have a four hit game, 1B Cody Nowlin had three singles and a double on a night that featured 16 hits to match the Silver Sox run total as they led the entire game.

LHP Jason Martinez earned his first victory of the year coming on in relief of starter LHP Josh Evans who pitched three innings. Martinez pitched four and two thirds innings striking out seven roadrunners in his best performance of the season.

With such a big lead, a five run rally by the Roadrunners in the bottom of the eight inning would be harmless. St. George never saw the possible tying run come to the plate in the game.

Game two of this series Tuesday night can be heard on the radio starting at 5:50 PT on ESPN Radio 630. James Johnson will start for the Silver Sox against Ben Buker of St. George.

The Silver Sox return home on Friday to face the Yuma Scorpions. Get your tickets by visiting the Silver Sox ticket booth at Peccole Park before the game.
