July 9, 2007 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Reno Silver Sox News Release

The Reno Silver Sox remain undefeated against the St. George Roadrunners, increaing their win total over to the team to seven games, with their win tonight, July 8, 8 - 4.

The Roadrunners came out scoring in the first when LF Ryan Stevenson hit a homerun run off of Silver Sox starter Nick Moran. However, that would be the last run the Roadrunners would score until the seventh.

In the bottom of the first, the Silver Sox bats took control and regained the lead, scoring five runs. With runners at the corners, DH Masa Chikazawa made his return to the lineup with a 2 RBI double. Then, LF Kane Simmons hit his fifth homerun, his second in two days, over the left field wall. Simmons is now only one homerun away from tying the league lead at six. 2B Mike Done then hit a double and scored when newcomer SS Sam Walker singled.

The Silver Sox would one more run in the second when 3B Carlos Madrid scored on a fielder's choice. Then add two more in the sixth when 3B Maurice Cole scored on an error and RF Juan Senreiso scored on a sacrifice fly.

St. George would try and mount a comeback in the ninth scoring two runs off of Moran, before he was relieved by Josh Evans. Moran pitched 8 1/3 innings before being relieved. Moran left with four earned runs and three strikeouts. Evans shut down the comeback attempt, getting Brett Flowers thrown out at home and getting Gerard Haran to ground out.

The Silver Sox return to Peccole Park tomorrow night, July 9, to take on the Roadrunners in the final game of this three game series as they look to continue the season sweep. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with gates opening at 6:00 p.m. Walker Starts off on Fire

Sam Walker is the newest face to be seen on the Silver Sox bench, and even after playing only one game he has made an impact. Walker went 3-3 with an RBI and one walk in his debut against the St. George Roadrunners on July 8.

Walker, from Sebastopol, CA, went to Missouri Western University where he played shortstop. Walker came in for a tryout with the Silver Sox before the July 8 game and impressed Manager Les Lancaster.

"Shortstop is one of the positions you can never have too much depth," said Lancaster.

Walker had great timing, as the Silver Sox starting shortstop Chuck Sindlinger went down with a sprained ankle and Maurice Cole hasn't been able to make a successful switch from 2B to SS yet.
