Chico Outlaws News Release

FULLERTON, CA - Orange County right-hander Alex McRobbie tossed a complete game seven-hitter and the Flyers used a three-run 7th inning to defeat the Chico Outlaws 4-1 Sunday afternoon...the Flyers earning a split of their two-game weekend series at Goodwin Field on the Cal State Fullerton campus.

McRobbie and Outlaws starter Jake McKinley locked up for an entertaining pitcher's duel as neither team scored through the first four innings. McKinley pitched out of a second and third, one out situation in the Orange County 4th but his own wildness led to the Flyers first run an inning later. With two outs in the 5th, Buddy Morales singled and stole second...McKinley then hit Dave Bacani with a pitch and issued back-to-back walks to Aaron Davis and Rich Pohle to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead. McRobbie kept the Outlaws in check until the 7th, when Jason Matteucci connected for a two out solo home run over the right field fence to tie the score.

Orange County answered back in the bottom of the 7th by plating its final three runs - with two on and one out, John Jefferson came in from the Outlaws bullpen to relieve McKinley and immediately gave up an RBI single to Davis to put the Flyers back on top 2-1. Following a walk to Peanut Williams, Scott Goodman then grounded a single up the middle to chase both Davis and Williams home to make the score 4-1. That was more than enough offense for McRobbie, as he allowed only one Chico hit and struck out four over the final two innings to post the complete game victory and give the Flyers the series split.

McRobbie (3-0) finished with nine strikeouts on the day in earning the win...McKinley (2-2) allowed just three earned runs in six-and-a-third innings but was tagged with the loss. Matteucci and Daniel Nava each had two hits to pace the Outlaws offense; Steve Boggs went 0-for-4 and saw his 18-game hitting streak come to an end. Mark Okano went 2-for-4 to lead Orange County's seven hit attack. Sunday's loss dropped Chico to 21-9 on the year, but thanks to Yuma's 7-0 victory over Long Beach, the first place Outlaws maintain a three-game lead in the race for the Golden Baseball League's first half title...the Flyers, meanwhile, improved their season record to 16-15.

The Outlaws take Monday off before opening up a six-game homestand Tuesday with the first of two against the St. George Roadrunners...right-hander Nick Singleton (2-2) will be on the mound for Chico in the series opener; St. George is expected to start righty Shannon Sprouse (1-3). Game time is 7:05pm...hear all the action with "The Voice" of the Outlaws, Rory Miller, beginning at 6:35pm on SportsFan 101.7 FM ESPN Radio.
