Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, catcher Pete Farina drove in Jova and Almario to make the score 6-0 before A.J. Valentine scored the fifth run of the frame on a passed ball.
Valentine, a rookie from Stockton, Calif., delievered the second run of the game for the Scorpions on a long home run over the centerfield wall. The solo blast was Valentine's first career professional hit.
Almario drove in Calderon for the first time in the fourth inning, giving the Scorpions a 1-0 lead. Almario was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and Jova was 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Eight of the nine Scorpions hitters reached based on a hit. Nik Crouch, the only starter who didn't get a hit, was taken to the hospital after being hit in the face with a pitch from Long Beach's Taylor George. Crouch received 13 stitches, is back with the team, and is doing fine.
