Syracuse Silver Knights News Release
SYRACUSE, New York - The Syracuse Silver Knights took a road trip to Harrisburg on Friday night to take on the Heat. The Silver Knights would come away winners thanks in part to four unanswered goals in the third quarter.
The Eastern Conference matchup got off to a slow start with possession being a key for both sides in this one. Through the first 10 minutes of the match the two sides tallied just 3 shots each with none finding the back of the net. But after an official time out the teams came out of the huddle looking to fire away. In the final 5 minutes of the quarter each team had another 3 shots with both the Heat and Silver Knights finding the back of the net once. The Heat got things started with a right footed strike from Tyler Witmer before Tim Crawford was able to answer back for the Silver Knights just 3 minutes later to tie things up. The quarter would end shortly after the Crawford goal heading into the second all squared away.
The second quarter saw more shots, more goals, and more action. The quarter started just as the first had with the Heat opening up the scoring. But the Heat would not hold onto the 2-1 lead for long. The goals went back and forth for the whole quarter with a tie again at 2-2 and 3-3. The Heat would then take control before heading into the locker-room for halftime scoring just 6 seconds before the whistle sounded giving them a 1 goal lead heading into the half. The Heat were heading into the half looking for their first win on the season.
The second half would play a different tune for the Silver Knights who stormed out of the locker room with fire under their feet. The Silver Knights scored 4 unanswered goals in the 3rd quarter to open up the flood gates for the Silver Knights. Goals from Darren Toby, Vittoio Petrera, and two from Joey Tavernese would help build the Silver Knight lead to 7-4 heading into the 4th and final quarter.
The Heat were not willing to go away quietly though in the 3rd of 4 matchups for the two sides. After being shut out in the third quarter the Heat came back in the fourth to score 2 unanswered goals early to cut the Silver Knight lead down to one goal. Kenardo Forbes was able to score an empty net goal to give the Knights another 2 goal cushion with just 1 minute left in the match. Tyler Witmer added his second goal of the game for the Heat with 20 seconds remaining, but the score would then remain 8-7 as the clock hit all 0's on the Heat comeback attempt.
Leading the way for the Silver Knights was Joey Tavernese (3,0) - Tim Crawford (1,2) - and Vittorio Petrera (1,2). Bryan OQuinn picked up 12 saves on 19 shots in the win.
