INDEPENDENCE - The Missouri Comets (16-3) return home for the regular season finale as they host longtime rival and Eastern Division Champion Baltimore Blast (15-3) at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The game, which will kick off at 7:35 p.m. CT will be streamed live on GoLive Sports Cast.
This will be the third meeting between both sides this season. Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team defeated the Blast 6-4 at home on January 31 and also snatched Baltimore's 818-day home game winning streak last Friday at the Royal Farms Arena with an overtime 5-4 victory. The Blast lead the All-time series 12-5.
Baltimore is coming from a solid 9-0 home win against the Harrisburg Heat, while the Comets defeated the Syracuse Silver Knights 8-4 at War Memorial at Oncenter on Sunday.
In the last three weeks, Comets players Leo Gibson, Boris Pardo, and John Sosa have been voted Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Player of the Week by the fans.
The match will feature the best two goalkeepers in the league as Baltimore's William Vanzela stands at the top of the league standings with a 2.76 GAA totaling 190 saves followed closely by Pardo with a 4.60 GAA and 207 saves.
In addition, Baltimore and Missouri have the two best defensive numbers. Coach Danny Kelly's team has only allowed a total of 48 goals this season. The Comets stand second with 91 allowed tallies in 19 games.
The Comets are led offensively by team captain Vahid Assadpour with 22 goals and 26 assists for a total of 48 points. He stands third in the league. On the other hand, Baltimore will be without one of their leaders as Vini Dantas is out with a foot injury. However, forward Tony Donatelli leads the team with 31 points off of 17 goals and 14 assists.
After clinching the Central Division title, the Comets will be back in action next Sunday, March 13 when they host the winner of the Milwaukee/Chicago series in the Division Championship match. Call 855-4KC-GOAL for more information.
