Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON. S.C.- The Charleston RiverDogs were on a mission heading into Saturday's April 22 ballgame: to set a world record. A wacky idea, 4,025 cases of silly string, and hours of cleanup later, the club has been rewarded for their efforts as the RiverDogs garnered Minor League Baseball's Promo of the Month for April as announced on Tuesday.
"This was one of the best worst ideas we've ever had," said RiverDogs Promotions Director Nate Kurant. "This day started out as a 'wouldn't it be funny if' moment in a brainstorming meeting this past offseason, and turned into a one-of-a-kind moment at the park that none of the fans in attendance will soon forget."
On Saturday, April 22 during the seventh inning stretch, RiverDogs fans unloaded 4,025 silly string canisters to set the world record for the largest silly string fight as part of a Saturdays Live at The Joe presentation during the night's contest against the Asheville Tourists.
Other April highlights from Charleston's opening month included "Legalize Marinara Night" on April 20 and a tribute to Charleston icon and ballpark vendor Tony the Peanut Man on April 12.
With Silly String Night, along with their impressive array of upcoming promotions, the RiverDogs seek their second Golden Bobblehead after capturing MiLB's best overall promotion of the year in 2012 when they hosted the South Atlantic League All-Star Game that included a home run derby on the U.S.S. Yorktown.
The RiverDogs return home for a brief four-game homestand starting on Thursday, May 18 to take on the Augusta GreenJackets, the Class A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. Homestand highlights will include a summer kickoff on a Budweiser Thirsty Thursday, fireworks to the music of Taylor Swift on Friday, a postgame high school home run derby competition on Saturday, and a Holy City Sunday at The Joe.
RiverDogs tickets, including options for the all-new Riley Park Club, are now available and can be secured by contacting the box office at (843) 577-DOGS (3647) or online at www.riverdogs.com. Those that can't make it to the park can follow every pitch of the RiverDogs season on WTMA 1250 AM in the tri-county area or by streaming online at riverdogs.com and the TuneIn Radio App by searching "RiverDogs."
