Roman's 10th inning double hangs up Jackets Starting pitcher Solorzano turns in quality start with 7.0 strong innings

AUGUSTA, Ga.- The Intimidators needed extra innings before breaking open a pitchers duel for a 2-1 win over the GreenJackets in 10 innings on Wednesday night at Lake Olmstead Stadium in Augusta. Kannapolis (16-15) earned its second extra-inning win of the season while improving to 9-5 on the road against the Southern Division.

With the game tied 1-1, Max Dutto walked to open the top of the 10th, and Joel Booker's sacrifice bunt moved the go-ahead run into scoring position. Mitch Roman belted a ball off the wall in center field, easily scoring Dutto for the Intimidators first lead of the night, 2-1. Kannapolis went on to load the bases in the inning but stranded three on base in the top of the 10th.

Mike Morrison spun a perfect bottom of the 10th for the save (5) as Kannapolis improved to 7-5 in one-run games this season.

With the game tied, 1-1, and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Intimidators reliever Kyle Kubat struck out Augusta catcher and former Catawba College product Will Albertson to push the game into extra innings. Kubat (1-2) earned the win, tossing a scoreless eighth and ninth inning while striking out three and limiting Augusta to one hit. GreenJackets reliever Nolan Riggs (0-1) took the loss, allowing a run on two hits over 2 and 2/3 innings.

Kannapolis starting pitcher Yosmer Solorzano took no decision despite a strong showing. The right-hander struck out seven over 7.0 innings, limiting the GreenJackets to a run while scattering seven hits and a walk.

GreenJackets starter D.J. Myers limited the Intimidators to an unearned run on five hits and a walk over 7.0 innings. He struck out six while also taking no decision.

Augusta staked itself to an early lead, 1-0, in the second inning when Shawon Dunston Jr. doubled and eventually scored on a Brandon Van Horn base hit.

Trailing 1-0 for most of the game, Kannapolis evened the score in the top of the sixth. Jameson Fisher opened the inning with his second triple of the season. One batter later, Micker Adolfo grounded a ball to third baseman Kevin Rivera, whose throw home was off the mark, allowing Fisher to slide home safely to tie the game, 1-1.

The Intimidators continue this 3-game series on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Alec Hansen (1-3, 3.56 ERA) takes the mound against Augusta's RHP Matt Solter (2-0, 3.86 ERA). The team returns home on Thursday, May 18, for a 7-game home stand against Hickory and Greenville.
