Dallas Sidekicks News Release
Allen, TX - The Dallas Sidekicks (0-0) will host the Missouri Comets (1-0) tomorrow, Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:35 p.m. at Allen Event Center. The match marks the beginning of the Sidekicks 2015-16 season, the team in search of a fifth franchise championship.
Dallas Sidekicks Head Coach Simon Bozas will make his debut on the bench alongside returning Assistant Coach Nick Stavrou. This year's squad features a fairly even mix of experienced veterans and quick, young, local rookies. Returning veterans Patrick Shamu and assist-machine Ricardinho will lead the midfield, feeding to proven scorers Jamie Lovegrove and Cameron Brown. Dallas' back end will be defended by Cody Ellis, Mike Jones and Fabinho. The Sidekicks will start newly acquired goalkeeper Juan Gamboa in net, who led the league with the best GAA throughout the 2013-14 season.
"We have put together a talented, largely locally-based team who have gelled together very well and have been working hard to prepare for Missouri. Our veterans have been essential in grooming the new generation of talent we brought in," Bozas said. "The Comets are a talented team with a lot of experience, but we are confident that our skill, work ethic and fitness will make good things happen for us on the field."
Missouri is led by Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski, who guided the Comets to a perfect 20-0 regular season record before falling to Baltimore in the MASL Conference Finals. The Comets will make their way to Allen Event Center with one win under their belt, the team coming up with a nail-biting 9-8 overtime victory against expansion team Cedar Rapids Rampage last Friday. Returning forward Leo Gibson and midfielder Vahid Assadpour are Missouri's most dangerous offensive threats, Gibson leading the MASL in scoring last season with 93 points, and Assadpour netting 36 goals. The team lost top goaltender Danny Waltman in the offseason, but replacement Boris Pardo impressed last Friday.
This will be the only meeting between Dallas and Missouri during the regular season.
