Kansas City Comets News Release
INDEPENDENCE, MO (November12, 2015) - Following a hard fought and thrilling 9-8 overtime victory against Cedar Rapids last weekend, the Comets will be back in action when they visit the Dallas Sidekicks (0-0) and the Harrisburg Heat (0-1) on Friday at 7:35 p.m. CT and Saturday at 6:05 p.m. respectively. Both matches will be streamed live on Go Live Sports Cast. In addition, in-game updates can be followed on Twitter at @CometsMASL.
Head Coach Vlatko Andonovski's team will seek to return to Kansas City with a 3-0 record after being guests to Harrisburg and Dallas' home openers. However, that won't be an easy task as the Comets will be without defenders Brian Harris (suspension) and Alain Matingou (injury) as well as midfielder Kiel Williams (personal reasons).
Last month, the Sidekicks named Simon Bozas as their new head coach and general manager as well as the signing of three veteran players. Patrick Shamu, Ricardinho and Renato Pereira have scored a combined of over 150 goals throughout their careers. However, they lost Freddy Moojen and Alex Megson who signed with St. Louis and Cedar Rapids following last year's campaign.
Sidekicks' goalkeeper Dejan Milosevic finished fifth last season with a 4.71 GAA, 131 saves in 11 games and six wins but that was not enough for Dallas to advance to the Conference Championship after falling to the Monterrey Flash in the Southern Division Championship.
With six points coming from four goals and two assists, league MVP Leo Gibson led the Comets to a 13-4 win over the Sidekicks on October 25, 2014 followed by team captain Vahid Assadpour who finished that game with five points.
Following tomorrow night's game, the Comets will head to Harrisburg to visit the Heat who dropped their first game of the season 7-8 in their visit to the Waza Flo last Friday. Coach Tarik Walker's team will look to bounce off in their home opener at Royal Farms Arena.
Last year, the Comets earned a 24-10 (multi-point) win over the Heat on November 29 with Gibson leading the way with four assists and braces from Max Touloute, Robert Palmer, Bryan Perez and Andre Braithwaite.
Harrisburg strengthened their roster this season with the signings of former Baltimore Blast players Adauto Neto and Lucio Gonzaga as well as goalkeeper Tim Mehl and forward Val Texeira who currently leads the Heat with one goal and three assists for a total of four points followed by Chis Hall with two points coming from two goals.
Next up, the Comets will return home to the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena when they host the St. Louis Ambush on Friday, November 20. Season tickets and single game tickets are available. Call 855-4KC-GOAL for more info.
