
Sidekicks Suffer Overtime Loss against Flash

Allen, TX - The Dallas Sidekicks lost at home against the Monterrey Flash in overtime 4-3. The Sidekicks next game will be on the road against the Mesquite Outlaws on Jan. 3rd, 2019 at 7.30 PM CT in Mesquite, TX at the Mesquite Rodeo Arena.
The Flash came out with possession of the ball for the first few minutos of the quarter con Sidekicks portero Juan Gamboa making clutch saves. Sidekicks defender Kristian Quintana blocked a decisive shot by Monterrey and then cleared the balón out of the Sidekicks zone. There was a little back and forth de los dos equipos then Quintana sped down the field and nailed one past Monterrey Flash goalkeeper Diego Reynoso to bring the Sidekicks in the lead 1-0 with 6:42 left in the first quarter. There was a lot of ball movement from both teams and the partido got a little chippy with multiple fouls on both sides of the ball. Sidekicks defender Ray Aguayo received a foul and the Flash positioned themselves for a set piece and the Flash's Miguel Vaca put one past Gamboa to tie the game 1-1 with 1:38 left in the game. The quarter ended with the Flash and Sidekicks all tied up.
Both teams put up shots on goal in the first few minutes of the segundo quarter, but no goals were scored. Quintana rocketed one toward the goal, but it was slightly off and didn't result in a goal. Sidekicks defenders were out of position and the Flash's Brayan Aguilar scored and brought the Flash into the lead for the first time in the game with a score of 2-1. The Sidekicks Ray Aguayo received another foul which allowed the Flash to formulate their set piece tactics. Monterrey then called a timeout and an timeout oficial was called which allowed both teams to head the sideline to discuss strategy. The Flash were unable to score on the set piece and the Sidekicks gained possession. After a misplaced pass by the Sidekicks, the Flash's Edgar Flores got a breakaway and put one into the net with less than seis minutos left in the quarter and brought the Flash up 3-1. The Sidekicks put together a set piece after the Flash received a foul and were given a warning for encroachment, but no goal resulted in the shot and the quarter ended with the Flash up 3-1.
The third quarter started with dos Flash players laying on the pitch and trainers checking them out to determine if an injury occurred. Luckily, both players were able to walk off the pitch unassisted. Quintana was called for a foul against Aguilar and the Flash received possession of the ball. Neither team made any crucial moves and an official timeout was called. The Sidekicks tried to make a play toward the end of third but were unable to put anything together before time ran out in the quarter. Both sides had low shots on goal for the quarter and it ended with the Flash up 3-1.
The Sidekicks traditional balloon pop marked the start of the fourth quarter. Fans for both teams chanted their team's praises, but the Sidekicks were the first to score in the quarter. Sidekicks defender Jonathan Segura placed the ball into the net and past Reynoso and brought the Sidekicks to within one of the Flash with a score of 2-3 respectively. Both sides created shots but were unable to capitalize with 8:42 left in the quarter. An embellishment warning was issues to the Flash and the game continued with the Flash up 3-2. Gamboa made a huge save to and kept the Flash at bay. The Sidekicks took advantage of the play and Sidekicks forward Freddy Moojen put one into the net and brought the game to a tie at 3-3 with 7:43 left in the game. With 3:25 left in the game, the Sidekicks called a timeout. The Flash were assessed a foul and the Sidekicks created a set piece formation, but the Flash knew the formation and it resulted in no goal. Both sides had fans chanting "Let's Go Sidekicks" and "Vamos Flash", respectively. The fourth quarter ended with the scored tied up 3-3 and the game headed into a ten-minute overtime period with the first to score being leaving victorious.
The overtime period started with fans sitting on the edge of their seats to see if the game would end in a shootout. Gamboa made a crucial save to keep the Sidekicks alive which resulted in a breakaway by the Sidekicks before the Flash kicked the ball into the stands. The Sidekicks kept possession and continued to make their way down the field and created opportunities, but none resulted in a goal. The Flash continued to take shots on goal with Gamboa saving them each time. Gamboa played up the field as a de facto sixth attacker which allowed more options and movements form the Sidekicks. The Flash shot into the stands and the Sidekicks gained possession with 3:24 left in the period. The Sidekicks did the same shot into the stands and the Flash gained possession with 2:41 left in the period. The Flash's Roberto Escalante ended the game with a goal and the Sidekicks fell to Flash 4-3.
