MACON, GA - The Macon Mayhem and Director of Hockey Operations Kevin Kerr announced on Sunday that assistant captain Dennis Sicard has been placed on season-ending injured reserve (IR). The team also announced that defenseman and assistant captain Jeff Sanders has been activated from the 21-day IR.
"It's tough any time you lose a key piece of your team and a leader," said Kerr. "Dennis played a huge part in our championship last season and has had a ton of success in the playoffs throughout his career. I think we have a group of guys that can overcome the loss, and getting a great defenseman and leader in Jeff Sanders back will definitely help."
Sicard, 32, is in his second season with the Mayhem and has recorded eight goals, 22 assists, 30 points and 168 penalty minutes (PIM) in 50 games this season. Sicard was a key piece on the Mayhem's President's Cup Champion team last season, tallying 32 points in the regular season to go along with five points in the postseason. He scored the opening goal of the clinching game two in the President's Cup Finals last season. Sicard is in his 11th season in the SPHL, in which he has 112 goals, 120 assists, 232 points and an SPHL all-time high 2200 PIM over 476 career games.
Sanders, the 29-year-old defenseman, will make his return after missing the Mayhem's last 15 games. In 37 games this season, the third-year SPHL player has two goals, six assists, eight points and a plus-10 rating. Sanders is serving as one of the team's assistant captain in his third season in Macon, over which he has four goals and 28 points in 145 games.
