Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (34-38/6-4), who transformed into the Kimchi for Korean Heritage Night, fell behind early and never recovered in their 10-4 loss to the Biloxi Shuckers (38-39/4-6) on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
John Doxakis (0-3) made his eighth start of the season for the Biscuits, and the southpaw struggled in the top of the first inning walking a couple of batters before serving up a two-out RBI-single to Thomas Dillard, who made it 1-0 Biloxi early. Doxakis still struck out Joey Wiemer in the first.
Brandon Knarr (1-1) countered on the other side for Biloxi, and the left-hander allowed a double to Osleivis Basabe and walked Jordan Qsar-both with two outs-in the bottom of the first, but struck out Niko Hulsizer to end the inning. Knarr also fanned Greg Jones earlier in the inning.
Doxakis struck out Cam Devanney to begin the top of the second, but then allowed a double to Yeison Coca before Sal Frelick brought home the third baseman with a teardrop of an RBI-single off the end of the bat down the left field line to make it 2-0 Shuckers.
The Kimchi threatened in the bottom of the second with runners at the corners, but could not score, and then Jakson Reetz flexed out his league-leading 21st home run to straightaway center in the top of the third and made it a 3-0 game. Knarr walked Qsar again in the bottom of the third, but retired everyone else to keep the shutout intact.
In the top of the fourth, the Shuckers loaded the bases against Doxakis before Frelick delivered a sac fly that made it a 4-0 contest. Later in the inning, Zack Trageton came on for Doxakis, and allowed a two-run double to Andruw Monasterio and a two-run homer to Reetz over the left field wall to make it 8-0 Biloxi.
Devanney launched a solo shot of his own to left in the fifth and made it 9-0, and then Dillard belted a solo home run to right in the seventh to make it 10-0.
The Kimchi mounted a comeback in the bottom of seventh, scoring their first runs since Wednesday on an Arnaldo Hernandez wild pitch, a Greg Jones RBI-single, an Erik Ostberg RBI-single, and an error by Dillard that made it 10-4, but that's all the Kimchi could muster on offense.
The Biscuits will attempt to rebound on Saturday when Sean Hunley (3-1) battles against Carlos Luna (3-4) at 6:05 PM CT when there will be a Mystery Bobblehead Night & MAX Fireworks.
The rest of the series will include a Fishing Bobber Giveaway presented By Go Fish Alabama & Bark in the Park on Sunday, July 10 at 3:33 PM CT.
