Rockford IceHogs News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind.- There was no holiday hangover for the Rockford IceHogs on Tuesday night as they topped the Fort Wayne Komets 3-1 at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne. A pair of second period short-handed goals was all the offense that the Hogs needed and Frederic Cloutier was solid in net making 35 saves to earn the win.

In the second period the IceHogs got the offense rolling after defenseman Luke Fritshaw was whistled for an elbowing minor at 5:00. While short handed defenseman Nathan Lutz hammered in his second goal of the season, set up perfectly buy Nicolas Corbeil at 6:05. Then just 47 second later winger Chaz Johnson would give Rockford the lead. The winger blocked an A.J. Bozoian pass and skated in on Fort Wayne goalie Kevin St. Pierre and beat him on the far post at 6:52 for his ninth marker of the campaign.

Leading by a goal in the third period, the IceHogs tacked on an insurance marker on the even strength. Center Kevin Ulanski crossed a feed to winger Nicolas Corbeil who shot home his 12th tally of the season for the 3-1 advantage.

The only goal in the opening period came at the 14:18 mark. Fort Wayne center Martin Gascon set up wingman David Hukalo who slipped his sixth tally of the season past Cloutier for the 1-0 lead.

Komets have haunted the IceHogs on the special teams in the past. Tonight, however, it was Rockford who stymied Fort Wayne. The Hogs held Fort Wayne to 0-for-6 on the power play. St. Pierre was tagged with the loss despite making 25 saves.
