UHL names weekly award winners

LAKE ST. LOUIS, MO--- The United Hockey League (UHL) announced Tuesday that Quad City Mallards forward Don Parsons has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and Fort Wayne Komets goaltender Kevin St. Pierre has been named Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week for the period ending Sunday, December 24th, 2006.

Parsons completed the week with seven points (5g, 2a) and a plus-2 rating in three games played. He netted four goals, including the game-winner, in Wednesday's 7-1 win vs. Bloomington. The four goals is the most in a game this season by any UHL player. He registered two points (1g, 1a) in Friday's 7-1 win vs. Flint. Parsons then dished out an assist in the 3-2 loss to Fort Wayne on Saturday. The 37-year-old native of Boston, Massachusetts is currently riding a five-game point streak. He has 12 points (8g, 4a) during that span. He currently ranks second in the UHL with 21 goals. Parsons recently netted his 600th professional goal becoming only the third United States born player at any level of professional hockey to accomplish that mark. He also has become the leading United States born goal scorer in minor professional hockey history.

Other players nominated for the Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week include: Bloomington defenseman Jarad Bourassa, Elmira right wing Brent Cullaton, Fort Wayne left wing Matt Syroczynski, Kalamazoo forward Scott Dobben, Muskegon left wing Evan Kotsopoulos, Port Huron left wing Colt King, and Rockford defenseman Nathan Lutz.

St. Pierre finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 2.00 goals against average (GAA), and a .940 save percentage (SPCT). On Friday, he made 23 saves in the 4-2 win vs. Elmira. He then made 40 saves, including 19 in the third period, in the 3-2 win vs. Quad City on Saturday. The 31-year-old native of Sherbrooke, Quebec has made 14 consecutive starts in net for the Komets. He has played more minutes (1371:17) than any other UHL goaltender. He currently ranks second in the league in wins (16), GAA (2.19), and SPCT (.929). St. Pierre also ranks third in saves (654). It is the third weekly honor for him this season.

Other goaltenders nominated for the Southern Sports Supply UHL Goaltender of the Week include: Chicago's Marty Magers, Elmira's David Lemanowicz, Flint's Bryan Worosz, Kalamazoo's Ryan Nie, Muskegon's Clayton Pool, Port Huron's Dustin Traylen, Quad City's Jason Tapp, and Rockford's Jake Moreland.
