Shorebirds Shutout 12-0 by Suns in Game One

Salisbury, Md. - The Hagerstown Suns (31-22) scored eight runs between the third and fourth innings and cruised to 12-0 win over the Delmarva Shorebirds (22-31) on Thursday night at Municipal Stadium. The Shorebirds have lost a season high seven games in a row and ten of their last 11 games.

In the third, the Suns capitalized on two errors to build a 4-0 lead. Hendry Jimenez was issued a lead off walk and then erased on a double play Then, Brian Goodwin reached on a hit and advanced to second on an error by Sammie Starr. Billy Burns got aboard on an error by Nicky Delmonico. Jason Martinson followed with a three-run homer to left field. The next batter, Matt Skole, hit a home run to center field to increase the lead to 4-0.

The Suns took a commanding 8-0 lead with four runs in the fourth. After Justin Moore retired the first batter, five consecutive batters reached for the Suns to produce four runs.

The Suns added two runs in the seventh and two runs in the eighth.

Shorebirds starter Moore, who was added to the roster this afternoon, lasted four innings and allowed six hits and four earned runs. Jesse Beal went 2.1 innings out of the bullpen and allowed two unearned runs. Jake Cowan pitched the final 1.2 innings. He gave up three hits and two runs.

The Shorebirds and Suns meet on Friday in game two of the series at 7:05pm. RHP Miguel Chalas is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
