Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
SALISBURY, MD. - The Delmarva Shorebirds saw an early three-run lead slip away in the late going as they lost to the Carolina Mudcats 7-5 on Tuesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
The loss to the Mudcats (53-50, 19-18) pushes the Shorebirds (34-68, 13-24) losing streak to seven in a row, tying their season long.
Delmarva opened up the scoring in the first with a three run frame. Luis Valdez reached on a dropped third strike before Noelberth Romero walked to open the inning. The two then executed a double steal with Reed Trimble then grounding out to first Valdez with the first run of the game. After a strikeout, Isaac De Leon launched a two-run homer, his eighth of the season, to make it 3-0 Delmarva.
The Mudcats clawed two back in the third. Eric Brown Jr. knocked in a run with a single before he and Robert Moore executed a double steal from first and third, allowing Moore to score from third.
The Shorebirds recouped those two runs in the bottom of the fourth on a Creed Willems two-out, two-run single.
In the top of the fifth, Brown Jr. launched a two-run homer for the Mudcats, his first of the year, making it a one-run game again at 5-4 Delmarva.
With two on and two outs in the seventh, a dropped pop-up allowed two runs to score for Carolina giving them their first lead of the day.
Jose Sibrian put the game on ice for the Mudcats with a solo homer in the ninth, his second of the year, to push the scoreline to 7-5.
Michele Vassalotti (9-2) collected the win in relief for the Mudcats, throwing a scoreless frame working around three walks by striking out a batter and not allowing a hit.

Karlos Morales posted a scoreless ninth for Carolina to earn his fifth save, allowing just a walk while striking out two
