Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

SALISBURY, MD: The Delmarva Shorebirds (3-17) were defeated in a 13-inning battle against the Fredericksburg Nationals (14-7) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 6-4.

Fredericksburg would take a second-inning lead on a single by Caleb Farmer combined with an error, allowing Roismar Quintana to score, putting Delmarva behind 1-0.

Delmarva got a tremendous pitching effort on Sunday, led by starter Braxton Bragg who struck out six batters across his four innings, allowing just two base runners on a pair of hits with one unearned run allowed.

Nestor German entered in the fifth and continued Bragg's excellence by keeping it 1-0 entering the seventh inning. The Fred Nats would manufacture a two-out run in the frame on an RBI single by Brenner Cox to make it a 2-0 game.

The Shorebirds would fight back in the bottom half of the inning as Braylin Tavera got Delmarva on the board with a stolen base that forced a throwing error, allowing him to score, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Cole Urman scored the tying on a groundout back to the mound as Doug Hodo touched home, evening the game at two.

German would shut down the Fred Nats by putting the side down in order in the next two innings, finishing the day with five innings of work and seven strikeouts, both career bests.

In extra innings, neither team would score in the tenth, but both would plate a run in the eleventh on an RBI single by Brandon Pimentel for Nationals, and a run-scoring single by Anderson De Los Santos in the bottom half to keep the game deadlocked at 3 headed to the 12th.

After a scoreless 12th inning, Fredericksburg broke the tie for good with a fielder's choice, a sacrifice fly by Pimentel, and a successful first-and-third steal to score a total of three runs, putting Delmarva behind by their largest margin at 6-3.

Delmarva would bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth after an RBI single by Thomas Sosa, but the Shorebirds were unable to get the big hit they needed and would fall 6-4 in 13 innings.

Mason Denaburg (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Fredericksburg with Jared Beck (0-3) taking the loss for Delmarva.

On Tuesday, The Shorebirds will return to action for the back half of their 12-game homestand as they play host to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. First pitch of the series opener is at 11:05 a.m.
