June 11, 2008 - arenafootball2 (af2)
Spokane Shock News Release
CHICAGO - The Spokane Shock have maintained the No. 1 ranking in the Week 12 Coaches Poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. The Shock collected 447 of a possible 448 points and 27-of-29 first place votes in securing the top position for the second consecutive week. Spokane stayed perfect in 2008 at 10-0 after an impressive 17-point win at Boise this past Saturday, 68-51. The Shock are the only remaining unbeaten team in the af2.
The defending ArenaCup Champion Tulsa Talons (9-1, 411 points, 2 first place votes) earned the No. 2 position outright this week on the strength of a 70-40 home win against Lubbock. Tulsa's Week 11 victory was important because it helped the Talons increase their lead in the Central Division to two games over the No.6-ranked Renegades. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (8-2, 377 points) improved one place to No. 3 as the team rebounded from a Week 10 road loss to Manchester with a convincing road win at Albany, 69-27. The Florida Firecats (8-2, 357 points) slipped two spots to No. 4 after a 12-point loss at Manchester, 47-35. Tennessee Valley is a new entry into the Top-5 this week. The Vipers (7-3, 330 points) defeated No. 11 Lexington at home last week, 64-48. The victory was the seventh straight for Tennessee Valley.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 16 teams in the league by ranking them one through 16 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 16 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 16th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 16 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.
