Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release
(Wilkes-Barre) The Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Pioneers continue to load up their roster with the assignment of 2007 all-af2 first team wide receiver Bakari Brown.
The 6'0 180 pound Millersville product led the af2 in receptions with a jaw dropping 158 catches for 1589 yards and 28 touchdowns while playing for the Albany Conquest in 2007. He also took 55 balls off of the net for 1169 return yards for a 21.25 average and a touchdown.
"Bakari is a proven, premier af2 receiver," stated head coach Rich Ingold, "He is the right fit for us right now, a guy who wants to come to a winner."
Brown adds another dimension to the Pioneers receiving core of Rich Musinski, JJ Outlaw and Larry Kendrick. A combination of speed, hands and knowledge of the arena game make Bakari one of the best in the league. He also has the experience of finishing the 2006 season with Ryan Vena in Albany, where he tied for the team lead in receptions with 68 catches for 658 yards in only eight games.
"I'm glad to have him aboard, we are lucky to have him," said Pioneers QB Ryan Vena, "Bakari is a dynamic player in this league that will help us take an even bigger step towards our ultimate goal."
The Pioneers take on the Tennessee Valley Vipers Friday night at the Wachovia Arena at 7:00pm. The Vipers are led by former Pioneers Head Coach Dean Cokinos and former Pioneers WR/DB Cosmo DeMatteo. It will be Heroes Night when the Pioneers honor the men and women who serve us everyday. There will be a parade of heroes with military, police and firefighters on the field before the game. Plus the first 1000 fans will receive rally towels courtesy of First Liberty Bank and Trust. For tickets visit the Wachovia Arena Box office, call the Pioneers at 970-4232 or visit our website www.wbspioneers.com.
