Spokane Shock News Release
The Spokane Shock announced today that OL/DL Paul Cheng has been assigned to its 2007 roster by the League Office.
Cheng, 6'3" 275, has experience in the Canadian Football League and the Arena Football League but this will be his first year in the af2.
A four-year starter at Simon Fraser University, he was the sixth overall selection in the first round of the 2002 CFL draft by the BC Lions. While in the CFL, Cheng also played for the Cavalry Stampeders and the Montreal Alouettes. Cheng also spent time in training camp with the Colorado Crush of the AFL.
In an effort to promote Arena Football internationally, the af2 allows teams to carry an extra player on their rosters when that player is a foreign citizen. Cheng, a Canadian citizen, is the first international player in franchise history to sign a contract with the Shock.
"I'm excited to have Paul on our roster as we head into training camp," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "He's a player I've had my eye on for awhile now, and I'm really glad we can put him in a Shock uniform."
The Shock's roster now stands at eight players signed for the first season under Shackleford. The Shock will begin their quest to defend the Championship on Saturday, March 31st as they host the Stockton Lightning. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 509 242 7462.
