Detroit Shock News Release

Auburn Hills, MI. - The Detroit Shock announced today that the club has selected Shavonte Zellous with the 11th pick in the 2009 WNBA Draft this afternoon. The Shock also selected Britany Miller with the 18th pick and Tanae Davis-Cain with the 37th pick.

"We feel very good about this draft," said Bill Laimbeer, Shock head coach and general manager. "We filled our needs and got the players we projected. We're very excited."

Zellous, a 5-foot-10 guard, three-time All-Big East First Team selection, led Pittsburgh in scoring over the past three seasons and hit the 2,000-point milestone earlier in the year. She became just the third player in Pitt history and just the 13th in Big East history to reach the mark. Zellous became Pitt's first-ever women's All-American when she was named an Associated Press third team All-American in 2009.

Zellous boasted averages of 16.8 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists in her four years at Pittsburgh. In addition to her Big East First Team selections she was also named to the NCAA Spokane Region and Fifth Third Classic All-Tournament Teams in 2008 and Big East Most Improved Player in 2007.

"We have been zeroed in on Zellous for about two months now and feel very fortunate to get her," said Laimbeer

Britany Miller was named to the ACC All-Freshman team and named Seminole Classic MVP in 2006 during her career at Florida State University, but hasn't played at the collegiate level since early in the 2007-08 season. Miller has been playing professionally overseas for the 2008-09 season with Valosun in the Czech Republic averaging a double-double with 17.8 ppg and 10. 2 rpg.

Tanae Davis-Cain, a 5-foot-11 guard, also a Florida State product, finished her FSU career as the program's all-time leader in three-pointers made and set a school-record with 77 triples made in her senior season. She earned ACC All-Tournament Second Team and All-ACC Third Team honors this season while ranking second on the team in scoring with 12.7 ppg.
