Dream Trades Draft Pick For Guard Ashley Shields

Atlanta, April 9, 2009- The Atlanta Dream acquired guard Ashley Shields from the Detroit Shock today in exchange for the team's 18th overall pick in today's WNBA draft.

The Southwest Tennessee Community College product made a splash in the 2007 draft, when she was drafted eighth overall by the Houston Comets, becoming the first WNBA draftee from a junior college. Shields, a 5-10 guard, was signed by Detroit last season as a free agent after being waived by the Comets. In seven games with the Shock, Shields averaged 3.1 points, 0.4 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.

The Dream will tip off its second season on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 7 p.m. against the Indiana Fever.
