Spokane Shock News Release
The Spokane Shock organization announced today that it will be teaming with Second Harvest Inland Northwest,1234 East Front Avenue, to help serve Spokane's needy families.
Members of the Shock front office, including Majority Owner Brady Nelson and the team's Mascot SHOX the FOX, will be on hand distributing food to those in need this Saturday, December 2nd from 8 AM to 2 PM.
On the first Saturday of every month, Second Harvest Inland Northwest opens its warehouse doors for Project Hand-Up, a food distribution program that serves more than 300 clients referred from collaborating job training or life skills programs. These clients and their families are eligible for Project Hand-Up for as long as they meet the requirements of their self-sufficiency program.
"As a new business in the community, it's important for us to give back and remain active year-round," said Kevin Maloney, Director of Communications. "Second Harvest does great work for this community and we are excited to help them during the holiday season."
About Second Harvest Inland Northwest: Second Harvest, founded in 1971, is the pioneering organization that leads the fight against hunger in the Inland Northwest. Through partnerships with more than 300 neighborhood food banks and meal centers, Second Harvest provides food to more than 48,000 people each week. Last year, Second Harvest distributed 14.3 million pounds of food throughout its vast service area, feeding people in poverty, the working poor, elderly and disabled people on very low fixed incomes, and children and families in temporary crisis.
Vital programs like food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, group homes and rehabilitation centers would see their limited budgets deplete rapidly if they had to purchase food through retail channels. With the nutritious high-quality food they regularly receive from Second Harvest, these agencies are able to focus their budgets on their core services.
