Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers News Release

(Wilkes-Barre, PA) Coach Ingold continues to pursue the best athletes for the Pioneers' 2007 roster, and he has acquired two very talented impact players that will play a large role in making the team successful next season. The newest Pioneers are Jason Williams from the University of Connecticut and Troy Blackwell from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Jason Williams is a 6'0 190lb. WR/DB who was a valuable asset for the Huskies. In his last season with Connecticut Williams played in all 11 games and led all receivers in receptions, touchdowns, and total yards. His 32 receptions for 315 total yards resulted in 5 touchdowns on the season, which placed him second on the team for most touchdowns. In addition to receiving the ball Williams rushed 3 times for a total of 38 yards.

The next player to join the Pioneers is a force to be reckoned with. Troy Blackwell is a 6'9 305lb. OL/DL who was an impact player for the Mocs at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. In his four years playing for UTC Blackwell played in every game except for one. When he was a freshman in 2002 he recorded 22 tackles (14 unassisted) and 1 sack for a loss of 4 yards. In his final season, 2005, he had 42 total tackles (24 unassisted), 6 tackles for a loss of 34 yards, and 3 sacks for a loss of 29 yards.

"Both Jason and Troy had very productive college careers. Jason is a guy who can stretch the field with his speed and he is a natural when it comes to playing both sides of the ball. He was an excellent receiver in college, but I see him being an outstanding DB as well. Obviously, with Troy's size, he causes problems with passing lanes. For a big guy he moves extremely well. He has a knack for getting his hands on the ball," stated Coach Ingold when asked about his newest players.
