Spokane, WA: With a 69-22 win tonight over the Tri-Cities Fever, the Spokane Shock won their 11th-straight game and tied their franchise record in the process (set last season).
Spokane's QB Nick Davila set the tone early connecting with WR Andy Olson on a 20-yard TD reception to cap off a two play drive that took just one minute and five seconds off the clock. Davila's success continued in the first half as he completed 83 percent of his passes - including 5 touchdowns - for 125 yards.
The Spokane Shock defense dominated the Fever's struggling offense in the first half, allowing just 80 yards (of passing offense) without a single point. Under heavy pressure from the Shock defense all night, Fever QB Tomotsuna Inoue completed just 39 percent of his passes for 80 yards and was sacked twice.
Back-up QB Colin Drafts, who was signed earlier this week, came in the third quarter and provided a spark for the Fever's offense. On his first drive of the game, Drafts capped of a three-play drive with a three-yard TD reception by WR Emery Beckles, for the Fever's first score of the game. Drafts completed 58 percent of his passes - including three touchdowns - for 134 yards with one interception.
Shock QB Casey Hansen, who relieved Davila on the final play of the first half, picked apart the Fever's stingy defense by completing 66 percent of his passes - including four touchdowns - for 177 yards.
"He does a good job for us in practice every day and he has been working really hard since we have been here," WR Raul Vijil said. "He ended up playing really well for us tonight."
Vijil also played "really well" tonight and lead the Shock's receiving corps with 143 yards, and collected eight receptions. Each of Vijil's three touchdowns came in the second half, including a 42-yard TD reception that put the Shock up 56-19.
Rookie receiver Markee White had his best game of the season tying Vijil for the team-lead in receptions (8) and touchdowns (3) for 86 yards.
"It's nice to have depth at the receiver position," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said after the game. "We thought this was the right week to rest Charles' (Dillon) ankle knowing we had a guy like Markee to step in and help us. It's a good feeling for a Coach."
Shackleford and the Shock host the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz this Friday night for their first appearance in Spokane. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling TicketsWest.
