BattleWings slip by Dorados, 59-56

Hidalgo, TX- The Bossier-Shreveport BattleWings move to 7-5 on the season and are in second place in the Southwest Division after beating the Dorados 59-56 in Hidalgo, Texas on Saturday night. The BattleWings came out firing on all cylinders and jumped out to a 16-0 lead before allowing the Dorados to score with 6 minutes remaining in the second quarter. K Art Carmody's 26 yard field goal started the early onslaught for the Wings' and was followed by a 5 yard scoring run by Jason Schule and a 23 yard touchdown reception by Thyron Lewis. The Dorados answered back with two touchdowns to cut the Wings' lead to 16-14, but QB Andrico Hines connected wi th WR Manwell Talbert on a perfectly executed 20 yard screen play to extend the BattleWings' lead to 23-14 going into halftime.

The second half started with a bang for the BattleWings as DB Pierre Lee intercepted an errant Nick Hill pass and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown to boost the Wings' lead to 30-14. The 16 point lead quickly evaporated as Dorados' WR Rod Windsor scored twice on 6 and 12 yard scoring receptions and FB Derrick Harris scored on a 3 yard run to give the Dorados a 33-30 lead with 8:24 remaining in the third quarter. The BattleWings cut the Dorado's lead to a lone point after DL Dannie Snyder slammed Nick Hill to the turf in the endzone for a sack and a safety.

WR Rod Windsor began the 4th quarter with his 3rd touchdown reception of the night to extend the Dorados' lead to 40-32. Wings' WR P.J. Berry sandwiched a 26 yard Craig Turner run with a 3 rushing touchdown and a quick 45 yard touc hdown pass from QB Andrico Hines to cut into the Dorados lead and make it a 47-46 score with 4:53 remaining in the game. The Dorados' came back with a 18 yard scoring strike to WR Brett Smith but their offense was done for the night as the Wings' defense clamped down in crunch time. Wings' WR Buchie Ibeh scored on back-to-back touchdown receptions from 4 and 6 yards out to give the Wings' a 59-53 lead with 15 seconds remaining. K Radamez Rubio cut the lead to 3 with an eleven yard field goal and had a chance to tie the game after the Dorados recovered an onside kick but missed from 45 yards out as time expired.

The BattleWings will return to action on July 4th as they host the Amarillo Dusters at the CenturyTel Center at 5 PM.
