
Shock benefit brings in over $5,000 for cancer

August 3, 2006 - Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that last night's End of the Year Bash raised over $5,000 to benefit the Spokane Cancer Relief Fund.
The evening's festivities included an auction of various Spokane Shock memorabilia - including game-worn jerseys - to benefit the Spokane Cancer Relief Fund.
The Spokane Cancer Relief Fund is a non-profit organization that benefits cancer patients in financial need.
"The generosity of our fans goes a long way to help ease the burden that cancer brings," explained Brady Nelson, Shock Majority owner and Spokane Cancer Relief Fund Board Member.
Other highlights from the evening included three player awards: Ironman of the Year, Offensive Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year.
Charles Frederick was selected as the Ironman of the Year for his outstanding play on both sides of the ball. Offensively, Frederick is the team leader in touchdown receptions (22), and second on the team in all-purpose yards (1628). Defensively, Frederick has one interception and three fumble recoveries - two of which he has returned for touchdowns - and 31.5 total tackles.
The Offensive Player of the Year was given to the offensive line of the Spokane Shock. All season long the offensive line of the Shock have only allowed seven sacks, second among all af2 teams.
Defensive Player of the Year honors went to DS Rob Keefe. Keefe, a three year veteran of the af2, has been a leader for the Shock on and off the field all season long. As one of three captains, Keefe's leadership has guided the Shock to the best regular season record in the af2. Statistically, Keefe is currently second in the league in interceptions (10) and first on the team in total tackles with 86.5.
About the Spokane Caner Relief Fund: The Spokane Cancer Relief Fund is a non profit organization formed for the benefit of those who are fighting cancer and their loved ones. As many of us know, the battle with this disease can be a long and stressful one. The SCRF main purpose is to alleviate many of the unnecessary burdens that are associated with treatment. Funds from the SCRF help provide a financial and monetary escape from some of these day to day worries. Many patients face travel and living expenses that the SCRF can help subsidize. In addition, the SCRF focuses on providing a mental and emotional escape through various activities such as Spokane Shock football games and other family friendly events.
