August 3, 2006 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

RISLOV BREAKS TD RECORD: Rookie QB SCOTT RISLOV of Central Valley has had an outstanding first season in the af2. In the Coyotes Week 18 road win at Stockton, Rislov threw for 341 yards (30-of-37 passing) and a season-high tying eight touchdowns without an interception. In the process, the standout signal caller from San Jose State set a new Arena Football record (AFL & af2) by finishing his first season with 106 touchdown passes. That mark well surpassed the old af2 record of 99 touchdown passes, set in 2005 by MATT SAUK. Rislov also bested Dallas Desperados veteran QB CLINT DOLEZEL's Arena Football League record of 105 touchdown passes. Dolezel made his mark just months ago in the AFL's 20th season. Rislov's effort also pushed him past 4,400 passing yards (4,446) for the season to set a new Coyotes record. Florida's veteran signal caller CHRIS WALLACE finished second in the af2 in touchdown passes this season with 100, becoming the second af2 player to reach the lofty 100-TD pass plateau.

SIEGFRIED SETS ALL-TIME WIN MARK: Spokane Head Coach CHRIS SIEGFRIED led the Shock to the league's best record (14-2), a West Division regular season title, and a first round bye in the 2006 playoffs in the team's first season of af2 play. In the process, he steadily climbed up the career coaching victories ladder. With his team's 69-68 home win in Week 17, Siegfried became the af2's all-time leader in coaching victories with 53. He passed former Rio Grande Valley and Tennessee Valley Head Coach KEVIN GUY for the top spot on the af2's all-time career coaching victories list. He's also one of just three coaches in af2 history to hit the 50-win plateau. Siegfried, in his fifth season as an af2 head coach, is currently 54-26 overall. Below is a list of the top coaches in league history.

MAGER PLAYER: Louisville OS ROB MAGER established himself as arguably the most dangerous offensive player in the af2 this season. He finished his remarkable second year in the league by tying the af2 record for most touchdown receptions in a season with 54. Former Tulsa standout and current Houston Texan DONOVAN MORGAN set the standard last season. Mager also concluded his 2006 campaign with af2 highs in points (328), total touchdowns (54), receiving yards (1,918) and receptions (143). His 328 points and 54 touchdowns are the second-highest single season totals in league history. His 143 receptions are the third-highest single season sum in league history.

VENA PASSES af2 YARDS RECORD: Veteran QB RYAN VENA of Albany broke MATT SAUK's league record for most passing yards in a season during the Conquest's Week 18 game at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He finished his 2006 campaign with 4,520 passing yards, besting Sauk's old af2 standard of 4,489 by 31 yards. Vena was in a tight race for the league lead in passing yards this season by Quad City's Tim Hicks, but pulled away in the final three weeks to claim the record. Hicks finished second overall with 4,496 passing yards.

QUAD CITY'S PROLIFIC PASS CATCHING TRIO: Quad City receivers KRIS PETERS, TIM DODGE, and JACK WALKER became the first team trio of receivers in af2 history to record 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season. Walker led the group with 119 catches (1,353 receiving yards), Peters finished with 109 (1,588) and Dodge had 104 (1,321). They were also just the third threesome of receivers on the same team to each record 1,000 receiving yards in a season. In 2004, Peters was also part of the second group to hit the milestone as a member of the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. That season he led the Yard Dawgz with 1,304 receiving yards. AL HUNT and TIMON MARSHALL also recorded over 1,000 yards for Oklahoma City that season. The first group to do it had a familiar face as well. In 2003, the Steamwheelers 1,000-yard trio consisted of Dodge, JEFF HEWITT and IRA GOOCH.

BENTON HOLDS af2 CAREER SCORING LEAD: Florida OS MAGIC BENTON jumped ahead of Arkansas WR/DB KEVIN WILLIAMS this season to become the af2's all-time scoring leader. The veteran completed the 2006 season with 840 career points. Benton also has the distinction of being the first af2 player to hit the 800-point plateau. Williams joined the 800-club in Week 17 and ranks second overall with 820 points. Former Tulsa star MITCH ALLNER entered 2006 as the league's career leader with 780 points over his five-year career. Memphis' KEVIN PRENTISS became the newest member of the 700-club with an 18-point effort on three touchdowns in a Week 15 loss at Louisville. Prentiss currently ranks fifth on the all-time list with 738 points.

KICKIN' IT UP A NOTCH: Oklahoma City kicker A.J. HAGLUND is the most accurate kicker on extra points in league history with a career average of .909 (150-165). This year he had the best season for point after accuracy in af2 history. He converted on 93.5 percent (116-124) of his point after attempts. Haglund also had a streak of 69 consecutive point after makes this season without a miss, a stretch that lasted eight games.

POSTSEASON APPEARANCES: The Tulsa Talons officially clinched their seventh straight trip to the af2 playoffs with a Week 16 win at Bossier-Shreveport. Tulsa's seven playoff appearances are the most in league history. Tennessee Valley, Quad City and Florida are tied for the second most postseason appearances in league history with five. The Talons are one of four teams (Arkansas, Birmingham, Quad City) that have been a part of the af2 since the league's inception in 2000.

HOME FIELD DISADVANTAGE: For the third straight season the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz have earned a home playoff game in the first round of the playoffs. But also for the third straight season, they won't play it at their normal home. With the Ford Center unavailable, they have moved again to the nearby Cox Convention Center. Oklahoma City hasn't faired well there either, losing both playoff games. The Yard Dawgz fell to Amarillo in 2005, 59-56, and lost to Peoria in 2004, 45-35. Now with Arkansas coming to town, a team they beat twice during the regular season, they hope they can get their first playoff victory. It would also be the first Arena Football playoff victory in the history of the Cox Convention Center because when the Cox Convention Center hosted the AFL's Oklahoma Wranglers from 2000-2001, they failed to earn a home playoff game in either season.

100 TACKLE CLUB: Coming into this season, only eight players had recorded 100.0 tackles in a season in af2 history. This season three more players added their name to the 100-tackle club with Florida's CORY BAILEY (117.0) and QUINCY SORRELL (102.0) and Arkansas' DELENELL REID (100.5) breaking the century mark. Sorrell, who has topped the century mark in tackles twice in his five-year af2 career, owns the all-time tackle record with 389.5 career stops. See the chart below outlining the 100-tackle club.
