Spokane Shock News Release
The Spokane Shock announced today that WR Andy Olson and DB Kyle Whitehurst have been assigned to their 2008 roster. Meanwhile, DB Dennis Mitchell, who originally signed with the Shock on November 6th, has signed a Canadian Football League contract and has been placed on the "other league exempt" list.
Olson, 6-2 210, spent six weeks on the AFL's Georgia Force practice squad in 2007 and attended mini-camp with the San Diego Chargers in 2006. He ended his four-year collegiate career at Western Washington University in 2005 as the school's all-time leader in touchdown catches (31), and receptions (183) and finished second in receiving yardage (2,290). Additionally, Olson left a mark on the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, where he set a record by catching a touchdown in 11 straight games (2004-2005).
"Andy is athletic, he has great hands and most importantly, he has professional experience - with the Force and the Chargers," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "He's going to make a great addition to our roster."
Olson will be joined by Whitehurst who finished his collegiate career at Hampton University in 2007. At Hampton, Whitehurst was selected to the 2nd Team ALL-MEAC with 62 tackles three interceptions in 2005.
"Kyle Whitehurst is a highly-rated cover corner who will fill in nicely for Dennis Mitchell who we lost to the CFL," Shackleford added. "At 6-foot-2 with a 4.53 time in the 40-yard dash, he has the heighth and the speed to be a real force in this league."
Season tickets for the 2008 season are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 509 242 7462.
